The next edition of our sun-filled collective vocal improvisation holiday on the beautiful island of Samos, Greece will be taking place on May 21–28, 2026.
I’ve been offering these retreats since 2008. Many of you have already been to Samos and may feel a pull to return. For those who have been curious but haven’t yet made it, perhaps this is the year…
Marnei Mare (link to the venue here) sits on a precious piece of land in the verdant, unspoilt landscape of Samos. The three houses are set within beautiful, expansive grounds, with a swimming pool and two private coves for swimming in the Mediterranean. With uninterrupted views of the sea and mountains, vast skies, and almost no noise pollution, it is a truly nourishing place to retreat and recharge.
The week’s rhythm — with workshops in the early morning and late afternoon — leaves generous space for rest, island walks, nearby beaches and towns, time alone, and moments of connection, play, and shared joy with the other participants.
Through a combination of gentle movement, yoga and breathwork, voicework, spontaneous singing, circle songs, and more, the retreat offers a safe and supportive space to meet other vocal improvisers and explore spontaneous singing as an expression of our natural, individual creativity.
The work is rooted in the body, inviting presence, self-expression, and a growing trust in physical sensation and inner listening. With participants coming from different backgrounds, countries, and levels of experience in vocal improvisation, we aim to create a joyful pool of collective wisdom that can inform and enrich everyone.
The holiday runs from Thursday to Thursday, with a free day on Sunday. There is usually space for participants to come with a non-participant partner or friend who simply wishes to share the holiday and be around. Some people also choose to stay a little longer or arrive earlier, allowing time to settle in and explore the many landscapes, beaches, and villages that Samos has to offer.
The base price for one person sharing is €1000 for food and accommodation, plus €550 for tuition. A €500 deposit secures your place with Marnei, with the remaining €500 payable any time before May 1, either in full or in instalments. Tuition can be paid in Samos, or online any time before May 21, 2026.
